Middle School Students Become Engineers at North Florida College’s Robotics Camp
MADISON, FL (June 9, 2022) – Middle school students from Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, and Madison counties, and Lake Park, Georgia explored the fields of manufacturing, robotics, and engineering during North Florida College’s Robotics Camp held June 6th-9th.
Throughout the four-day summer camp, students attended NFC’s campus to create Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots, engage in STEM related activities, learn about engineering, and participate in robotics challenges. Their hands-on experience was done within the Advanced Manufacturing and Production Technology Program’s (AMPT) lab and classroom led by Bill Eustace, AMPT instructor at NFC.
“This is our sixth year hosting the Robotics Camp, and is probably one of our largest groups attending,” said Eustace. “This camp allows young students to participate in programming and coding with STEM related technology. They learn things like travel distance and rotational speed, while having fun with robot competitions.”
The Robotics Camp, initially funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation, helps to establish the basics of programming language to then become a stairstep into other higher complex programming. It builds student skills and confidence to explore related training and careers.
