FSU Fulbright Scholar Dr. Hamdi Saleh Visits NFCC

MADISON, FL – Dr. Hamdi A. W. Saleh, a Fulbright Scholar at the Center for Middle East Studies at Florida State University and founder and president of the Arab-African Initiative for Development, joined Live Oak City Councilman Frank Davis (District 4) and Suwannee County Economic Development Director Dr. Alvin Jackson for a visit to the North Florida Community College campus on April 19. The guests met with NFCC President John Grosskopf, NFCC Executive Director of Development and External Affairs Dr. Cheryl S. James as well as other campus leaders and faculty. NFCC administrators shared insights into the College during the meeting and Dr. Saleh shared his thoughts on possible international study and program partnerships. Following his visit to the NFCC campus, Dr. Saleh gave a lecture at FSU entitled “A Community in Crisis – The Islamic World and the Extremists.”

Dr. Saleh has been active in both American and Egyptian academia. In the United States, he has served as a lecturer, fellow and Fulbright Scholar at such prestigious institutions as the Harvard Kennedy School, Johns Hopkins University, and the FSU. In Egypt, he has acted as a professor and advisor in International Relations, Foreign Policy and Business Management at major universities including the American University in Cairo, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, and Nasr Military Academy. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Saleh has made significant contributions to social research on the transformation of Islamic society and culture. At the heart of Dr. Saleh’s careers, both academic and diplomatic, has been the importance of constructive relations between the Islamic world and the West.
