MADISON, FL – Saturday, November 9th, North Florida College (NFC) proudly partnered with Incubate Debate to host a dynamic debate workshop and competition event on campus; bringing together middle and high school students from across the North Florida region. The event provided a unique platform for students to hone their skills in debate and public speaking, offering them valuable experience in presenting arguments, building confidence, and engaging with diverse perspectives.

The program also highlighted the importance of public speaking as a powerful skill, equipping students with the confidence and ability to articulate their ideas clearly and persuasively—a benefit that extends far beyond the classroom and prepares students for future academic and career success.

Philip Wilkerson, Director of Advising & Retention and American Government instructor, alongside Lynn Wyche, Associate Dean of Student Life, and Madison Rabens, League Chair of Incubate Debate, served as judges and hosts to the students and families who attended the event. Their collective dedication to student development and engagement created a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, ensuring a valuable and memorable experience for all participants. Their involvement reflects a deep commitment to fostering student growth and academic achievement within our community.

During Saturday’s competition, participants showcased their talent, with Mr. Rodrigo Deleon Ruiz earning the title of Debate Champion and Ms. Julianna Weldon named the Bill of Rights Speaking Champion. For their exceptional preparation and performance, each received a $500 award. NFC commends these outstanding students for their dedication and passion.
