“The Shape of Air” exhibit open now at NFCC
Artist Kalina Winska to give art talk Jan. 17 at Hardee Center for the Arts
MADISON, FL (Jan. 11, 2018) – Artist Kalina Winska, Associate Professor of Art at Valdosta State University, is January’s featured artist at North Florida Community College’s Hardee Center for the Arts in Madison, Fla. Winska will give a public art talk at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Hardee Center, sharing insight into her current exhibit “The Shape of Air.” All are invited to stop by and meet the artist. Refreshments will be served.
“My recent works concern concepts and effects of climate change, weather modification and human drive to control natural phenomena,” says Winska. “These are mostly graphite or mixed media drawings on paper that formally explore a combination of indexical shapes of clouds with surface weather analysis data codes, a variety of color shapes, as well as symbolic and expressive marks and lines such as meticulously layered symbolic signs of targets. The drawings often mix authentic data with their imagined visual interpretation.”
Winska’s “The Shape of Air” exhibit is open to the community now through Jan. 24 at NFCC.
“The drawings are beautiful compilations balancing organic and geometric lines and patterns,” said Lisa Thompson, NFCC Art Instructor and Gallery Director. “While her work is inspired by a complexity of scientific systems, there is a delicate simplicity and harmony about the mood the images convey.”
The Hardee Center for the Arts features exhibits each month during the College’s fall and spring terms. The gallery is open to the public, excluding holidays, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Group tours are available upon request.
